D.D. Hess loves nature and her work is influenced by the beauty around her. She lives and works in her home studio located in South Florida, which has a subtropical environment. Therefore, flowers and water are her inspiration. When you see one of her beads in person, you’ll realize that you can actually "feel" the design. This is because, unlike many lampworkers, D.D. does not "in case" them in the glass. As she explains, "I like the tactile feel of the raised flowers."

D.D. has studied at Penland with Emilio Santini, the Appalachian Center for the Crafts, and has studied with Sylvie Landsdown. She has also studied glass fusion with Stephanie Houston. D.D. has been working with glass, both fused and lampwork, for over four years. Her work is sold in various bead stores and galleries throughout the U.S.

A few of her current customers include:
The Black Dog Gallery in Cocoa, Florida
Floridays Gifts in Stuart, Florida
Juliann Designs, Inc. in Vero Beach, Florida
Barrett's Beads in Ft. Pierce, Florida
Tatanka in Cocoa Village, Florida (beads only)
A Show of Hands Glass Stuidio in Telluride, Colorado
